It seems its the smell that puts them off. If they get a whiff of a newly opened bag it's too intense and they don't seem to think it's edible. However, they demand treats and when this is the only treat in my hand they eventually do give it a try. Once they tasted it they were much more interested. Had same issue with bacon treats. Ferrets are supposed to love bacon, mine aren't excited. They always have a nose for is stuff not good for them! They can smell sugary things or want to eat my dogs food and go crazy to get it. That stuff could kill them. My ferrets favorite treat is the banana treats - by far. But vitamins that smell like really strong bullion... well that's not as exciting... but a treat is a treat and they eventually will eat. Mine also loved the 8 in 1 ferret vite treats which seem to have disappeared from the market. Those seemed to smell more like Chicken, but not overpowering like the beefy boullion smell that these have when first opening.

Since so many chicken flavored treats have been discontinued, I have no choice but to try alternatives. These are bacon flavored. At least they are soft and not freeze-dried, but only one of my four ferrets will eat them. I wish Marshall would come out with chicken-flavored treats though.
