Ferrets can pull this out of bracket, 5/27/2017

Ferrets4life from West Allis, WI

My little girl ferret just kept ripping the box out of the clip that fastens to the screw part. Super glue didn't work so I used packing tape to hold the bracket in place on the box. I can't remove them easily to clean now, but I clean them every day, so I just reach in their cage and scoop out the waste anyway. I have 4 of these in my 3 story cage and they only go outside of the box like once every 3 days or so.

Decent but with occasional weakness, 4/8/2017

Ferrety2006 from

I found the litter pan to be pretty decent. Ordered several to fit into my ferret's Ferrety Nation double decker cage. However, one of them is prone to some weakness around the hinge portion where the threaded peg helps attach and secure the pan to the cage wall. For example, the plastic will pop out and I have to pop in back in occasionally. The others of this same one haven't done this, it was only one out of the three ordered. My ferrets are liking the pans pretty well though.

AWESOME Litterbox for training, 10/1/2016

maryw from Providence, RI, USA

I have a a male ferret who's almost a year old and NEVER used the litterbox, o matter what I tried. I bought one of these (lock on pans) and he uses it 9 times out of 10! The problem Ihad before was the other pans were too easy for him to move and flip over. So I tried this and it's PERFECT. I blocked the other corner he uses with a spring and he's just abou litter trained now, after almost a year of adamantly refusing to use any box! I bought two more, one for the playpen and one for the second ferret nation cage for the new ferret I got last month. New baby uses it EVERY TIME. Best litter box ever. 10/10

Great Product, Not what I was looking for., 9/2/2016

This pan is great and well made. It was however too large for my needs. I was able to use one of the two I purchased as a bed on the lower level of my Critter Nation and my rats love it.

Best litter pan for ferrets, 5/9/2016

ItzDani from

This litter pan is the best for ferrets my fuzzy always likes to move her pan and go behind it instead of in it and with this one it doesn't budge and since switching from the corner pan to this one she only goes in the litter pan.

Best litterbox!, 5/3/2016

Kelso from

I bought two of the lock-on litterboxes and I love them! I have no idea how people break the locks. I have three rambunctious kits and no problem here! Not only are they durable, but my ferrets really love the extra space. We've had 0 accidents in the cage since purchasing these!! My only issue is with the description on here. I was rather confused whether to get the Hi-Back or the Lock On so I just wish there was a picture of the Hi-Back litterbox.

Love the concept of this box but my little girls can unhook from the cage. The pin that hooks it to the cage comes out very easy. A few more clips may help. I am going to have to modify it a little bit.

Large. Lock on. Litter pan, 1/18/2016

Bell from

Well it seemed a bit damaged when I got it. I hope it holds up. Its way to big to fit through the door I had to take part of the cage apart basically to make a wide enough entry for it. Not convenient and it's Evan to large for the edge. It bolges out and sits slanted but she has not been able to remove it

I had bought a kitty pan for my ferrets & boy did I pay for it! I had to clean up a lot more than I had to. When I saw this ferret pan on ferret.com I decided to buy it. It was the best investment I've made because the way ferrets use the litter pan is so different from a kitten. This saved me from cleaning up all over the place.

The best ferret litter pan hands down!, 7/17/2015

WeaselKeeper from Massachusetts, USA

Love these! We have two of these in our triple unit Ferret Nation, and two of the non-lockon high backs in their free roam room. Tthey are the perfect size, we tried the smaller corner ones, which were a joke for ferret comfort, then moved to to the large corner pan, which is no good for the "high poopers" that like the bottom corners as it just ends up over the side and onto the floor. But these High-Back litter pans are just right, and all my six, USE them! The lock-on feature is awesome in the cage, as it prevents them from rearranging it all over the place-lol! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars for quality is because the "lock-on" device is pretty flimsy and we have had to alter them slightly to keep them attached (not a big deal at all for us). We will keep on buying these because they work great, and buying them from ferret.com because their price is good for them.

Be skeptical, 11/21/2014

hartfluter from Arkansas, USA

I bought the pan because I have two ferrets and it seemed that it would be larger and easier for two to use. But when I got it home and the first time I put it in the cage and before they could even use it the attachment that fits the cage broke and they were trying to scoot it to the middle of the cage already. So I had to zip tie it onto the cage. This makes it a little more troublesome when it come to changing the litter but the size is great. Design not so much this is why I rated it so low.

Get the HI-BACK!, 10/16/2014

LavenderFerret from Roanoke, VA, USA

If you have a ferret and are looking for a durable litter pan (also) have a big enough cage I would get the hi-back! *it is very large!* I have had the corner litter pans and my ferret will not use them. She cant fit her whole body inside so she would just pick a corner in her cage... The I got the hi-back and she hasn't gone anywhere else BUT the litter pan. So I would defiantly recommend this :# Now if you have a guinea pig or rat #any small animal) it may be different. The corner pans may work for them but when it comes to ferrets this is the one to have!

My ferret actually uses this one!, 10/9/2014

BlazerMom from Columbus, GA, USA

My male ferret doesn't like corner pans very much. They're too small for him and he'd rather have more room to do his business. My ferret actually uses this litter pan every time. Although it was a bit pricier than the off-brand corner pans I've bought before, I feel it's worth it. I was going through that much money in paper towels cleaning up his messes!

awesome pan, 6/9/2014

lizzy from Cincinnati, OH, USA

This pan is HUGE. if you dont have a big cage you might wanna look at a different one. I ordered the lock on one and havent had a problem with it. it says when i lock it and it doesnt move. My lil girl Ophelia tried to move it and it didnt go anywhere so she tried digging under it and realized that wouldnt work either so they leave it alone. its better than the other "lock on" pans that just hook on. Those get thrown around. My lil boy Squirrel who is kinda big can easily fit in it and the low lip is easy for them to get in. im so happy with this

High back pans are better than lock on, with a little modification, 5/19/2014

Momto4 from Baraboo, WI 53913, USA

I have both types, high back and lock on. The lock on pans were not secure, my young boys tried to push behind the pan and the lock on part popped off easily defeating the purpose of the 'lock on' feature. Might be fine for older ferrets who are not as determined to push it out of the way. I've had better success with the high back pans by drilling or melting 2 small holes about an inch apart, high center on the back and the side of the pan which is against the side of the cage. Thread long twist ties through the holes, around a bar or two of the cage and twist. This method is very secure for stubborn ferrets. Perhaps the company will adapt this method and make better litter pans in the future.

Like the construction design and the size is good for larger ferrets. My only suggestion would be to add fasteners to the backside to allow attachment to the cage. This prevents the ferrets from being able to move it around.

I heard before I bought this that the lock isn't the best, but I've not had a problem with it. Definitely recommend this, I also have one for his playpen. No more accidents, love it.

recieved different product, 1/11/2014

ferretkady from Hot Springs, AR, USA

i thought that i was ordering a litter pan that locked onto the side of the cage. my ferret is really bad about playing litter box scoot. the pan i received was much bigger than i expected , is shaped differently and does not lock onto the cage. the plus is that if i put in the right place he can move it. i went ahead and kept it because i needed a litter pan. i really would have like the other one, and may try to order again , only if i cant find one locally.

THE LOCK IS NOT VERY STURDY., 1/4/2014

Lisa from Michigan, USA

I received my order of two lock on litter pans , one the lock was broken when I received it and it was not broken during shipping. The broken lock was not even in the box, so yes it was shipped that way. Since I would spend more on shipping to return it , than I paid for the litter box, I'M stuck with a broken litter box . My next litter pan I will just buy from the store(If I ever buy another one). The locks are not that sturdy to begin with. The litter pan would probably be OK for a small Ferret, but my male weighs about 3 pounds.

read carefully. hi-back and lock-on are 2 separate pans, 11/20/2013

KatieB from Haymarket, VA, USA

the hi-back pan is wonderful with hi sides and back but be aware that it does not lock on. my ferrets like to move it around the cage. it cleans easy and even using it for over a month it does not hold in odors. I wish it locked on but had I read more carefully I would have seen that there were two separate offers but only one picture. I contacted customer service thinking I got the wrong pan because the pictures did not match

its a great litter pan but only if you havr a big enough cage, may be dange, 9/19/2013

JessikaandTylor from Nc

I have a fairly large cage and it takes up A LOT of room. So I knew I had to get a bigger cage cause I didnt want to go through the hassle of returning it cause it was what my ferret liked the corner litter pans didn't work for themit's big enough for them to have oroom to move and to back up in the wall are high enough so no messes happen but the front of the litter has kind of a high rim. This is ok if your ferret are pycho like mine are. There are really big into climbing but like to just "let go" at the very top and just fall down I have no idea why they do this ive tried everything to get them to stop but boys will be boy haha. So I saw one time that my littlest one fell onto the rim and it looked kinda bad but he seemed fine took him to the vet and everything checked out fine but it looked pretty painfull so on the way home I went out and bought a huge cage put the litter boxes under a shelf or walk way cause the top will come juat under it its quite tall.

Better then the corner pans, 8/29/2013

veabr from Andrews, TX, USA

This pan is much better for ferrets then the corner pan. That seems counter-intuitive given ferrets obsession with corner bathrooms, but the larger size prevents misses and the ferret can get all the way in and choose which corner he likes. The larger size also helps prevent the inevitable tipping of the pan as ferrets love to move everything. Our 3 prefer this to our corner pan and we've basically stopped using the other pans. We plan on getting another one for their cage.

The ultimate, 7/24/2013

justice1979 from Socorro, NM, USA

Do not question, this is the litter pan. Big enough to give the fuzz butts room to do their duty, and small enough to fit almost anywhere. The size might be an issue in smaller cages, but for any of the (standard) medium sized cages up to the ferret nation cages, just do this for yourself and your ferrets. I also use the high-back litter pans around the house, and the ferrets use them (YAY!!!). These are the littler pan to buy, all others are too small and or shaped oddly, which gives the ferrets pause. This is one of the reasons ferrets have accidents right near the litter pan. These are big enough for your ferret to back into comfortably. Lock-on pan will require that you bend the bars (only a little, do not worry about it) for the Critter Nation cage 1/2" bar spacing, fits just fine in the Ferret Nation cage.

Great litter pan, 7/19/2013

amint004 from Richmond, VA, USA

I really like this litter pan. My ferret always pushed her box out of the corner and this pan prevents that. The only thing I don't like is the part that locks on the the cage is a little delicate. I have already broken one. But, I will keep buying these because they are the best litter pans. It makes cleaning her cage so easy!

Great litter box!, 9/4/2012

Kristin W from Maryland

I LOOOVEEE this litter box and it is perfect for my two ferts! It is large enough for them to get into and enough space to hold more than a days worth of poop if needed! They only problem I've found is that the connector for the cage siding is weak and recently has broken completely off leaving the litter pan to be scooted around the cage (the whole point of my buying this was to avoid this! thus the 4 stars)

love this thing, 8/31/2012

Christy from Fort Pierce, FL

My ferrets hated the corner potties, but it was all that was available when I was buying the cage. I purchased the high backed one and the lock-on pan. I prefer the lock-on one, the side are plenty high enough. The high backed one is a bit more bulky and awkward. I will use the high backed one for out side of the cage. I will be purchasing another lock-on. I would have given it five stars, but I think they could make the lock-on a bit easier/quicker to remove it from the cage.

Good idea but..., 8/2/2012

Heather from Payson, Arizona

I bought the lock-on pan when I first got my male ferret Trick. At first, it worked really well and the locking mechanism kept him from moving the pan too much. However, within 2 months of having it, he figured out how to pop the lock off so that he could move the pan where ever he wanted. After fixing it multiple times, the lock broke completely so now he just moves the pan where ever he wants and gets the bedding all over the bottom level of his cage.

Best Yet, 7/5/2012

Shana from New York

So, despite the fact that my little monsters broke the attacher within, oh, a month, this seems to be their favorite yet. They've used this one much more consistently than others they have, probably because they fit in it better. Will most likely buy another when/if they break it again (it was an easy fix anyway).

LOVE IT, 5/4/2012

MARY HEBERT from Knoxville Tn

I have 2 3 month old babies and got the lock on pan(just in case they decide to throw it around). Absolutely love this pan! Plenty tall enough and NO MORE messy "oops off the back side". It is also long/deep enough that the ferret can get their whole body in the pan. I have just ordered an additional one for my 2 older ferrets. Sometimes they kick the pan around or make messes. Great construction, heavy duty and durable. I highly recommend this pan!

Did last very long, 2/9/2012

Lucifer and Kyra from International Falls, MN

I bought this product about a month or so ago and it didn't last very long. The screw on the back of the lock on pan broke and the little plastic things that go into the pan broke off I tried to Superglue them but they just broke off again. I really liked it because my fuzzies couldn't push it out of the way. But after about a month or so it broke so I am getting a different one with a metal clip on it. I wasn't very happy when it broke.

Works Great, 2/2/2012

dshou from PA

This is large enough that my ferrets use it and the high back/sides keep them from pooping onto the cage. I would have liked if there was a larger version about 20" wide and about the same length. Right now they occasionally use the corner next to the box, which is not being used anyway. The lock-on feature actually works better than I thought it would. It keeps thee box fairly still, and doesn't let them spill it at all. I can definitely see it popping off if the ferret tries, but mine are fairly well behaved.

Great Product, 12/2/2011

KMP from CT Shoreline

Nice large area encourages use. I had just the corner units previously and the ferrets would sometimes go infront of them. This unit has a nice high back and large area they do not feel cramped into it. Highly recommended!!A+++

Tray is good but Lock-On not so much, 10/20/2011

Melissa from Cincinnati

This tray is a great size and my ferret uses it with no problems. The only issue I have is the Lock-On device broke within a month of having it. I don't know exactly how it happened but my little guy must have felt like moving his furniture around. He had dragged it to a different spot.

This is a great litter pan. It is very sturdy and the lock stays in place. Ferrets like big enough litter boxes so they can back up into it. This litter box is perfect.

Hi-Back is HUGE!, 6/4/2011

Mary from Portsmouth, OH

Everything I buy on ferret.com always catches me by surprise on two things: one- how much cheaper it is than pet stores two- how much bigger it is than the pet stores or how it looks in the picture on the internet!!! I bought the Hi-Back & it's almost too big! But it gets the job done, I just put it in his favorite corner and he uses it, so easier clean up for me than emptying the whole bottom of his cage out.

Horrible Litter Pan, 4/28/2011

Thomas from Pigeon Forge, TN

The lock on this pan broke the second day we had it. Plus our ferrets dig under it and push it up and down because the locking mechanism lets it swivel up and down. And as far as litter in a pan it doesn't work no matter what pan you have our ferrets just want to dig it out and scatter it all over the cage.

Not the best idea for multiple ferrets, 3/4/2011

CDS0321 from Pennsylvania

We have four fur kids and let me tell you I went though heck and back trying to litter train our oldest. I was using one of these pans and after talking to other ferret enthusiasts I learned a little secret. The ferrets need to feel secure and like to fit their whole bodies in the litter box. These fill up fast if your ferret(s) go as much as ours do,even on high quality food and its a pain if you have to miss scooping one day. One also didn't get it to poop in the higher backed side and made a big mess! I just went out and bought a large clear plastic storage container that is meant to fit under the bed and ta-da! No more litter box issues for the most part! Save your money unless you want a lot of these in the cage,or if you want to use it as back up outside the cage. For that purpose it works great!

Good but could use another lock, 2/28/2011

Sam from East Hampton, NY

My ferret quickly learned he could push it to the side a little and go to the side. At first he didn't like it too much, and my other ferret did, but my male ferret then got used to it. I think it should have 2 locks on it, one on the left top side and one on the right top side, or 3; left, right, and middle. Overall this litter pan was bigger than I expected but it is good and it fits well into my Marshall Townhouse cage. To comply with my ferret moving the litter pan to the side, I ducktape the top through the bars and to the cage, so its unmovable unless I take the tape off. Other than the one lock, this litter pan is great.

Forget about corner litter pans. Yes, ferrets do go in corner but they absolutely HATE corner litter boxes, especialy males ! They like to fit their whole body in it, so you will need a square high back litter pan. This one its great. We use it in our ferrets' travel cage. We bought 2 Marshall High Back Litter Boxes for our ferrets room ; they are the best !

I bought the lock-on litter pan. You just tighten the back into the cage like a screw. My ferret would always move the litter pan around and 'go' behind it. With this, he cant even move it out of place. Its sturdy. My ferret hasnt had an accident since I got this. Its so great. I recommend it to yu!

Great, but it has its downfalls, 1/27/2010

Britny from NC

I love this litter pan. It's pretty big, so my fuzzies actually use it! They hated using the corner pans because they were so small, but with this one, I have very few messes outside of the pan to clean up. The only downfall is that the screw piece that attaches it to the side of the cage comes off, and my baby likes to try to squeeze herself between the cage and pan and is able to detach the pan from the side of the cage. This can lead to a mess in the corner because they are accustomed to that particular corner, litter pan or not. However, I will be buying another one for the bottom level of their cage where we still have the occasional mess.

Thank You!!, 7/21/2009

Kerri from Beaufort, SC

I used to have two corner litter boxes in my babies cage, my female was fine and used them with no problem, my male on the other hand preferred to do his business in between the two litter boxes. This made cleaning the cage (which I do twice a day) a pain. As soon as I bought this litter pan and put it in the cage, my boy started using it! Only two or three accidents since then. It makes clean up time A LOT faster! I love this litter pan and would reccommend it to everyone with ferrets!!

Works Pretty Good, 6/30/2009

Angie from Lockport, NY

This pan has high sides so it keeps the poo inside, unlike the corner pans where my fuzzies could lift their little bums over the side and...ick! What a mess! The litter does get out from the entrance and there is nothing to keep the pan in its place. Those are the only problems. The lack of a mechanism wasn't a biggie at first but it only took a few weeks before they figured out they could move it around. So, only thing I would change is adding a lock to keep it in place. I'll have hubby drill holes and tie wrap it into place.

Never get corner litter pans for ferrets! I promise if you are having trouble litter training your ferret, get a nice big square one like this and your problems will be solved! Drill some holes in the back to secure it with velcro ties so it can easily be removed. My ONLY issue is that I wish when you ordered this product you could pick the color you want, in order to match it to your cage bedding.

Lock on Pan, 4/6/2009

Jessica from Lawton, OK

I bought 2 of these several weeks ago and I would purchase them again. The locking mechanism on 1 pan fell off within 10 minutes. I used a round metal clip(office supplies) to hold it to the cage now and it works just fine. The 2nd works perfectly. These pans clean up really easily. The high back is awesome! I used to have to clean up poo after cleaning the box because my crew tends to go out the sides of most pans now it is all contained.

great buy, 11/4/2008

Jenn from San Antonio, TX

litter training our ferret seemed IMPOSSIBLE until i bought this pan. the corner pans were no good, she just didn't seem to use them, or would go over them. i got it when i got her a bigger cage. she has ample room to go where ever (which i feared!), but she chooses to use her pan, thank goodness (filled with yesterday's news). it's BIG but that's a good thing. i think she like having room to scoot in and do her business. my wishlist for this item is to make it able to fasten to the sides of the cage!

Great Deep Box, 8/15/2008

Justin from Central Oregon

You never realize how important the deep litter boxes are until you've gotten one... this one box takes care of the needs of all 4 of our little ones and we've had only 1 accident outside of it in a week! No more scattered messes in the corners, no more litter box void of litter, no more messing over the edge. An absolute necessity for any ferret owner! -- SERIOUSLY.

One flaw, but perfect besides that one!, 8/1/2008

Kristina from Seattle, WA

This box should have a way of securing it to the cage. We had to drill 2 holes in the back and use a shoelace to tie it on, otherwise both ferrets would move it around or dump it. Other then that one issue, we love it. It gives them plenty of room to back up into, and they have a few corners to chose from. :)

Litterbox was big that i thought it would be!, 6/8/2008

Felicia from Ellsinore, MO

The litterbox was way bigger that i imagined which is a good thing because it means more room for my ferret when he uses it. My ferret goes in it without a problem and still has lots of room. The only problem i had was that the locking system broke on one of the litterboxes (i order 2) when i attached it to the cage. I plan just drilling two holes in the top and using zip ties to attach it to the cage. All in all the think this litterbox is the best.

the box will not stay put using the locking system provided s I improvised and use twist ties through the holes ment for the locking mechanism. The ties come off easy for cleaning and stay in place despite all 4 ferrets efforts to move it.

Potty Training Success!, 9/23/2007

Fred from Long Island, NY

We own 3 fuzzies 2 males and a female and house them in a Ferret Nation 142 cage. Sookie, our large male used the green corner litter boxes perfectly fine. Missy, our young female used them too but LOVES to pull them off and push them around the cage too. Cooper, one of our males, refused to touch them and did his business in every other available corner. We tried switching litter and blocking off the other corners with no luck. Finally we installed this litter pan and he LOVES it! He NEVER misses any more and never messes outside this litter pan. All three of our fuzzies seem to prefer this pan to the others. Its roomier and secures MUCH better to the sides of the cage than the corner boxes. We HIGHLY recommend it!!

Wont stay put, 9/2/2007

Liz from Detroit, MI

I find that the plastic piece to attach it to the cage, is not sturdy. I definitely does not stay on the cage well, therefore my ferret friends push it aside, and poo behind it instead. The plastc part is very flimsy...definitely not ferrett proof.

Perfect., 8/19/2007

Ben Ford from Iowa

This is the perfect pan for my two ferrets. I have three of the corner pans and they would just go next to them. The size is kind of large but I think that is what my ferrets like about it. I do still have some misses but all in all this product works great. I was sent one without the clip I did not request a replacement from Ferrets. com because I was planing on removing it anyways. I am sure they would have sent me the clip. I just drilled four holes half way down two on each side. I then fed two zip ties through and tide it to my cage. They cannot move this at all and I just clip the two ties when cleaning is needed. this product is an A+ purchase.

Does the job!!, 8/8/2007

jessica from paris,tx

My ferret kept breaking the plastic lock on piece off so I just ran some yarn through the holes and tied it to the side of the cage. This makes it easy to remove to clean but keeps it in place!! So overall its a great purchase

Practical litterbox, 6/15/2007

Daria from Bellevue, WA

Everything is great about this box: the lock fits perfectly, ferrets immediately adapted to it, it keeps the litter inside even when ferrets try to dig it takes less space then a large corner one. But I wish it was a darker color.

Finally!, 3/22/2007

Jennifer from Auburn, AL

I finally have a litter pan that works! I initially got it because of its low front and its large size. My ferrets will only use a litter pan that is large and has a small ledge to step over. However, the cage latching mechanism has turned out to be wonderful. For litter boxes not in use in a cage, the nut and bolt can be popped out of the pan. My ferrets have never managed to dislodge the pan in the cage though. I own four of these, and theyre great.

Good, 10/9/2006

Jessica from PA

I like this litter pan because it's larger, so it's better for those that have more than one ferret housed together. I also like that it has the screw on thing to keep it in place in the cage. However, the little arm thingy that you use to lock it onto a cage, easily pops out of the pan (and easy to put back in - just push on the center of the pan, where the arm goes, from the inside of the box, then put the arm back in). My one ferret can be very tough on things and he pulled the arm out several times and the more he pulled it out, the easier it became to get it out. To solve the problem, I just used some duct tape to keep the arm in place and it's kept it there for about 4 months so far. It's a drawback, but an easy fix, and still an excellent litter box.

Great, 9/25/2006

Crystal from Springfield, MO

My ferret refused to use the litter box until I got him the lock-on litter pan. He has tried to move the litter pan, but isn't able to. He even uses the litter box on his own while out playing. He hasn't had hardly any accidents.

Easily Breaks, 8/24/2006

Chris from Laurel, MD

My ferrets turned this great concept of a lock on litter pan into a regular litter pan within 5 minutes of it being in the cage. They continued to push and pull on it until it detached from the locking arm and they could move it. Just wasn't very sturdy.

great, 6/17/2006

shelly from ga

My ferret got one of these because he had the high corner litter pan and he could back up over the edge and go beside the litter box. This litter pan has fixed that problem. Though, it's big, so I had a little trouble getting it through the cage door.
