Despite the tendency to tip, if unsupported, that the previous review mentioned, this product can easily be fixed to prevent this problem. I've found this product works well, even with several chunky rats up to 2lb in weight, as long as you use something to fasten the back to the bars more firmly - there are a number of ways to do this (including cable-ties, snap-rings, etc), but the most simple way in my experience is to use one or two small twists of plastic coated garden wire or twist ties. It's easy to remove the wire if you want to move it or take it out for cleaning and holds it very securely along with the built-in hooks. The shelf provides plenty of extra floor space for your small critters, to make the most efficient use of your cage space. I've used it with and without the ramp/ladder, and it's been sturdy, safe and well used by all of my rats over the last 2.5 years. An excellent way to add more shelving though with smaller animals you may wish to cover the wire to prevent any chance of feet getting caught between the bars or simply to provide a solid surface. Highly recommended by my mischief of rats.

This has been a great cage addition for my rats. I just fasten it on all sides with zip ties and its very sturdy.

This is impossible to keep on your cage and is very dangerous! I bought for my guinea pigs and as soon as any weight is put on the front edge where the ramp goes the entire thing can flip over! DO NOT buy this for any pet!
