I bought this item 6yrs ago and love it! Every now and then I order extension panels to make it bigger and my ferrets love it. I have it set up in a spare room, and I put my ferret nation cage inside of the play pen with the cage door open so they have the option of playing in the pen or hanging out in their cage. Most of the time they play in the pen. I have only had one ferret escape from it in the past 6yrs and that was because of a toy that was next to the side of the pen that was tall enough to give them leverage to climb over the top. As long as you use low toys or keep tall toys away from the border the pen works great. Best ferret play pen out there!

I have had this for about 6 months now for my 3 ferrets. 1 jumper. 1 little girl. 1 big fatty.
So far, I have not had any escapes except when I didn't assemble it correctly.
I can leave them in this for an hour and leave the room and feel perfectly safe. It's made my life alot easier, and my ferrets don't mind being in it at all.
The price is really good here too!

I purchased this item thinking that it would keep the ferrets in, however, I was wrong. Both of my ferrets figured out how to climb up the bars using the horizontal bar and get out.

This is just the MAT/COVER, NOT the entire playpen. From reading the other reviews and not paying good attention, I didn't realize this was just the mat until I received it in the mail.

I too had my ferret escape from the playpen. I solved this problem by attaching 18 inches of plastic mesh (3/4 inch diamond) with small zip ties around the outside bottom of the entire pen. I can still disassemble and move it around. She hasn't escaped since.

I bought the large, 11-panel version and one mat earlier but just found this site with the expansion panels and ordered that and another mat (wash one/"wear" one?).
Better price here than I paid elsewhere for the pen and first cover.
The 5 cavies have a huge cage but still love their floor time and with the two giant cats we have, this is almost like having one whole room to run safely in.
I figure the cats could clear the top if they were motivated enough but mostly they just sit outside the playpen and stare at the piggies inside.
The guinea pigs love it so much I put up a YouTube video of them playing in it. They are really going to love having an extra 3 panels!

I have a lot of fuzzies, as any family with more than 1, some are climbers. Forget this for holding them. I also have one who is a jumper. Clearing top with out missing a beat.

THOUGH I really like this cage for my 6 ferrets. 2 have learned to climb out even with the red cover velcrowed on top. (they can squeeze through tiny openings) so 2 roam the house wile the others play nicley in the pen... the warning comes with putting this outside....all my ferrets started digging in the grass and before i knew it they were getting out!!!! LUCK I WAS THERE TO CATCH THEM!anywaysplease do not put them in this pen outside on grass they will dig their way out and keep a close eye on them...

One of my ferrets can jump right up and pull himself over the top. I bought another mat for a cover and he learned how to unlatch it.

I bought this for my two ferrets, thinking that it would be great for them inside and out... BUT they sure showed me... They were able to get out of the cage by squeezing out between the vertical wires!!! So I didn't dare try it outside which is what I originally bought it for! I think it would be much better if they put more or the horizontal wires around it so they wouldn't be able to get out. So I ended up using it for my 4lb dog when I work, I love it for her But not the ferrets.

We bought the first for our 2 Lhasa puppies to protect them when we sleep. They stayed in these till potty trained. No mess on our floors. Now we have 4 dogs, the 2 small Yorkies stay in these. This is the best place on the web to buy these.

I just recently moved into a trailer home that has too many little ins and outs for my ferrets to run around in, so this is a god send! They aren't quite used to it (they're used to having the whole apartment), but none of them can get out of it; not even my huge baby. I would recommend this to anyone!

When I went to NC to visit family. I had to take my ferrets with me. My cousin didn't want them in the house, so I bought the playpen and a mat and cover. The cover kept them from climbing out, and the mat kept them from the grass, (one has grass allergies) and fleas. They loved it!!!

our fuzzies get a nice break from that cage, they love the fact that they can stretch and play, the mat makes it sooo easy to clean up after them. our fuzzies have no desire to escape, they love their playpen!!!

They love to chase each other in the playpen, and I put a large dishpan of dried pinto bean in there so they can dig all they want.

My little Noel loves to dig at the play pen mat, so much that she scratched at the seam of the mat and created a hole to escape, be sure to keep a few extra mats on hand and check them frequently. They are not as water proof as you thing. Water bowls that are played in and dripping water bottles that make the mat wet discolor the carpets and it is very hard to get the carpet to clean

Pro's - This is a nice size cage, I have 2 ferrets and they love to bounce around and have plenty of room to chase each other, even with their litter box, food, water and all of their toys. Plus my daughter even gets in there and sits. And it's great that you dont have to chase them around the house.. But I do suggest that if you do buy it, to buy the mat that goes with it, for those lil ferret messes.
Con's - However Im not sure I will put mine back in this cage anymore. For those who have ferrets that love to use their mouth to open things, you will know what Im talking about. My Ama today decided to do just that and got her mouth stuck on the corner ends. Thankfully my husband was here cuz I couldnt free her and he managed to bend the bars just enough that her mouth came free. So if you can train your ferrets to refrain from doing this, then this cage is great. But be-aware this can happen and I dont know how I could have helped her without hurting her more. Luckily she seems to be ok, we'll have to keep an eye on her though.

I travel a lot with my guys, and the playpen with expansion pack and mat makes a perfect little ferret zone, especially when visiting people who aren't so keen on ferrets in their house. Plus it keeps my guys out of trouble, or lets them safely enjoy the outside. They do dig, so keep an eye on them, and some of mine have figured out how to climb over if you put a toy or cage close to the walls of the pen. I have no complaints about the construction, and with the handy carrying case we have easily assembled and disassembled the playpen MANY times up and down the east coast!

We really liked the idea of the play pen and the play pen mat because we don't ever like to put our little carpet sharks in a cage, but can't always keep an eye on them either. The mats will defiantly save your carpets from their digging tendencies, but we've found a few problems with them.
1) It’s defiantly a bit of a task to clean up "accidents", but since they're all potty trained now and haven't relieved themselves outside the litter box since they were 4 months old, that isn't a problem.
2) The problem we are having is that they (especially the baby of the bunch) tend to dig... and dig... and dig... right through the bottom of the mat!!! We keep all of their nails short and yet they still managed to tear a giant hole in the mat and even climb underneath it. It was quite a surprise to walk into the room and find them all gone! Luckily they were unable to push underneath the cage part and were simply trapped under the mat.
and 3)They managed to tear off (and I'm pretty sure eat) the Velcro straps holding the mat to the cage.
Oh, and I thought ferrets were colorblind, but appearently not, they don't seem to like the red colored mats, this was the one they seemed to tear apart the most.

The pieces do go together but fall apart easily and must be stored individually as it will not fold flat.
I bought these to add to a pen but they are such a hassle to use I am going to cut off the hook and eyes and just use a wire to allow the pieces to fold flat when not in use and stay together when being erected. It literally takes three hands and a helper to assemble it outdoor.

I have three very different fuzzies, all of whom love to romp and tackle each other. This playpen is truly a Godsend as they can wrestle all day and I never have to worry about whether they are safe. It has become the centerpiece of my livingroom and allows friends to play with my ferrets without the stigma of a "caged" animal. My fuzzies are very "people friendly" and get excited someone new walks into the house as they are the center of attention! I highly recommend this product as it allows my fuzzies to be a part of all the "happenings"!

We have several ferrets and this cage has ben a wonder, BUT!..there is one in every crowd and we seem to have that one. Our one and only SUPER ferret who is quite the jumper, has learned to scale this fence. We simply duct taped the top of the fence. Since the top horizontal bar has been covered, there have been no escapes. I still would recommend this fence. Not all ferrets are as wyly and determined as our escape artist.

This product is great. The only issue I have is you cant put toys in it that the ferrets can stand on and jump from. If they get that little extra height is enough for them to get onto the top bar and out of the cage. my solution was to fold books over the top bar so they really couldn't grab it. Otherwise this is awesome.

I was very happy with this playpen at the beginning, but now I've had it folded and storaged in the bag for months. Playpen seemed to work very well for my one ferret - she spent there a lot of time outside of cage when I couln't keep my eye on her. But happiness lasted for a month only - Sophie learned to get out of it in less than a minute, even the bottom and top covers(mats) do NOT help!!! And she has never escaped from her cage ... She just starts to jump up, until she can get a push off from the lower horizontal bar with her back feet, then crabs the upper horizontal bar with front paws and over she is.

This is great for saving the floors when the playpen is used inside and you have a ferret who isnt quite litter trained yet. The only problem I have had with it is no matter how hard I scrub it poop still stain it, other then that its a life saver esp for spilled food or leaky water bottles.

This playpen is great! I feel confident and secure that my pets are safe in this playpen if I turn my back, have yet to have an escape and I have one little boy who hates cages so if he could have gotten out he would have! The 11 panel works well for a living room!

I don't know what I would do without this. It offers plenty of space for my ferret, Gracie, to run around in. When you need to clean the cage and can't keep an eye on your ferret, this is the perfect answer. It's sturdy, yet light enough to carry when folded. It folds easily for storage.

I purchase this unsure exactly how large it was. The 8 Panel workes great for me and my two ferrets. This allows me to let them out in any room even with my cats running around. there is only two things I noticed on is you may need to adjust the wire loops that hold it together. This is just minor and simple to repair. And secondly one of my little guys likes to grab on to the cage and colapse it inward. that why supervison is still required. I am going to try the MatCover and se if that will keep the playpen from being colapsed. I am very happy with this purchase and even more so with the price.

I was very disappointed in this item. I bought it for a cover to keep the ferrets in while playing. My male ferret found it very easy to push open and climbed out. It needs to be a hard plastic. Looking at the pictures I thought it was. It is a great idea just need to be made differently.

This product is great for litter training and for keeping your fuzzies safe without having to lock them up in their cage when you cant watch them. It would get 6 stars if there was an easier way to unlatch each individual piece, but youd have to bend the wire.

My ferrets like being outside. I use one mat for underneath the cage to protect from whatever may be on the ground and another for on top to keep the ferrets in they climb on their toys and try to jump out and other crittersdebris out. With the 11 panel setup there is enough room to put their travel cage and some toys out and they can safely play when they want and dont always have to be on their leashes outside. Of course supervision is still required.

It sets up really easily and is sturdy when connected. Would definitely reccomend getting the additional panels for the extra floor space and the mat for indoor use to protect your floors. I can let my ferrets run a little more unsupervised using this by not having it attached, but using it to cordone off a single room from the rest of the house as well. Taking it outside can become a little bit of an issue if your ferrets are diggers, in which case, use the mat.

Even when i go to work instead of putting them in their cage all day i leave them in this and they are fine!!!!!!!I do recommend though to purchase the mat that protects your floor. It is worth it!!!!!!
