My mother had order this cage for me as a Christmas gift. Assembly was easy. It's huge, and although I haven't had to clean it yet, it seems like it's going to be the easiest cage to clean ever! My only complaint was that two of the three floor pans were cracked when I received them. Unlike the other reviews with the complaints on the packaging I understand how difficult it would be the have this large and heavy of a cage arrive with zero damage. I simply emailed the customer service on the midwest homes for pets website and told them the issue. Within two days, I received a reply stating that they had already shipped out the replacement pans. Prompt and excellent customer service through the manufacturer made this cage even better to me. My mom also said how great the ferret.com customer service had been. So all in all, regardless of poor packaging, this cage is well worth the large price tag. (Which ferret.com also beats all other competitors at.) Number one priority- My rats love their new cage!

My rats love the cage. Arrived with broken trays though and the door snaps do not line up. Had to do some rigging to get everything to fit. Otherwise a great cage.

Our ferrets have always had huge cages, but this easily put together, roomy, sturdy cage is a keeper. Our boys LOVE this cage. I am now a fan of the people that make this cage. I bet this lasts 10 or more years.

When the cage first arrived, one front panel, both shelves and both pans were all damaged. There was virtually no padding for the tightly packed 100 lb. package. Ferret.com customer service was very helpful. They had UPS pick up the whole cage(stuffed back in the box as well as I could get it. Lol.), and had another sent out to me. The second one also had some damaged parts, though not nearly as many as the first. I had to call customer service again to replace one of the floor pans but I was able to bang the bent metal parts into working order.
I was delighted with the customer service at Ferret.com and the speedy delivery(not counting return and replacement time).
Midwest however, needs to do some serious reconsideration of their shabby packaging.

I used to have a crappy, hard to clean cage for my two fur butts. I dreaded cleaning day. Then I saw this one and HAD to get it. It was a big expense for us, but soooo worth it!
I love how both the top and bottom doors open up completely so you have easy access to all areas of the cage. Everything comes out easy and can be cleaned in a snap! I also love how the cage is on locking casters, so you can easily move the cage for cleaning or relocation.
The cage was a bit difficult to put together and required both myself and my husband. However, now that it's put together it is extremely sturdy. One note for when you are putting it together: make sure you are installing the doors right side up. Silly me, I wasn't paying attention and installed one set of doors upside down, and when I went to open them one of the doors came off and almost broke my finger! At the same time, I found that when they are installed properly you can take the doors off if you need to.
My only wish with this system is that the bottom pan had a higher lip. One of my ferrets refuses to use a litter box, so I have to fill the bottom pan with litter, which ends up scattered everywhere. I am waiting on scatter guards to come in the mail, so hopefully this will solve the problem.
All in all, this cage is AMAZING and I would recommend it to everyone!

my only piece of advise would be to have a rubber mallot and maybe a pair of plyers ready when you go to assemble. i found several of the clips were bent, weather from shipping or factory? and because some of the tubing was slightly twisted i needed the use of a mallot to drive pieces together. once installed the cage is great, very roomy and and very pet friendly, good luck!

For a cage with a great design; HORRIBLE quality control. Midwest should be ashamed. Doors snap, don't line up, frames are crooked, shelves won't fit in holes [soldered wrong], painted chipped off, plastic pans broken, and whole product was terribly banged up in shipping.
The door frames being completely off square and the shelves not soldered right are NOT shipping problems however, these are manufacturing issues and their manufacturing quality is terrible.
I love the design, I just think they don't care at all how poor the delivered product is. And I've ordered two, BTW. Second was worse than the first.
There is no protection in the box, just bare metal in a plain cardboard box.
Midwest deserves someone to copy the design and improve on the quality control. All this cage really has that is unique are the fully opening doors. Easily copied.

The habitat is drop shipped so it comes with Happy Feet ramp covers. Zoey likes it enough that after running around she'll zip up the ramp and go to sleep inside. Good quality but make sure you latch the doors well.

Easiest cage I've had to clean. The bottom panels come out making deap cleaning a synch. Doors on both levels open completely also helps with cleaning and rearranging. No more bending my arm all sorts of odd directions. :D Very strudy, have had this cage for a year now and nothing has broke. Looks nice so doesnt make your room look bad. Also, love the smaller spacing, I have a small female and she somehow found a way out of the other two cages I had and my little escape artist still has not found a way out of this one. One peice of the cage was a little warped from shipping but nothing a little man power could'nt fix. Overall this has been the best cage ever! I just wish I would have bought it first. My ferrets love all the room and play space! I did end up getting the little ramp for them to easily get in and out of it since the bottom storage shelf doesnt detach.

I have this cage, and it's easy to clean. For the money is very sturdy, and they can't get out of it while I'm at work. I bought the cover for it which they seem to love since they love dark. U can't go wrong with this cage.

There is one small probelum, the floor is smooth and there is no room to put bedding so if your fuzz shark likes to dig it will tear the botton and ull have to get a new cage. other wise, its a pretty cage

I have a large number of rescue rats. I ordered this cage, and keep 13 boys in it. There is plenty of room for them, and they love the room. I had no trouble with shipping, it arrived in great condition. I am going to buy another in the next couple of weeks for all of my rescue girls. This is by far the best cage, and for those of you complaining about pans, buy a large sheet of Choroplast sign board, and make trays that fit in it. It is easy to work with, and will provide the sides you are looking for.

I have this cage and the extra cage that goes on top.I own 13 ferrets and all of them fit nicely. The cage gives plenty of room for your fuzz faces to play and sleep.Access to the cage makes life much easier to clean / fill water and food bowls / and rearrange things / as well as getting your little fuzzy out for play time or what ever. This cage by far is the best for value , I highly recommend this cage to anyone wanting a good home for their fur face or faces to be happy. However beware , if you decide this is the cage you want
you might come down with a disease

I ordered two of these cages from ferret.com
Both cages arrived with almost every single part damaged.
This is a cage you would want to purchase at a store and verify each part was in good condition before purchasing. The manufacturer does not use packing material which I assume is a factor in the damage.
I am waiting to see if I will be getting replacement parts or a refund.

This is a great cage with lots of room for my babies. The cage is very sturdy, and I love how the doors open all the way. It did take two people to put it together, but it went up pretty fast. The last cage I had was much smaller, and the shelves were all breaking off and not safe for my fuzzies. I am glad that I finally found something that my babies are happy and safe in. I wish I would have found this cage when I first got my fur kids!

I've had 3 different houses for my ferret and this is by far the best one I've had! It's huge, strong, easy to move, clean and arrange beds/hammocks/toys!
We added carpet to all the floors except the bottom where the food and litter box are.
The only down fall (which is easily fixed) is it doesn't come with a ramp to get out of it. You can order it separate or you can make one. (easier to buy it)
Spoil your ferrets, they will be happy ferrets!

I love this cage. It is sooo easy to clean and gives you lots of room for your ferrets or other critters. It is a little pricey but the only cage you should ever have to buy. I highly recommend.

I have 4 pet rats in this 142. They have SO MUCH ROOM to play, and they ADORE IT! I have only one complaint and that is that the pans are not very deep, which seems to be a pretty classic issue with it - we have to vacuum little rat raisins off the carpet on a daily basis. However this is not a deal killer for me because there is so much room and the pans come out of the cage so easily, and it is set up to prevent dangerous falls and allow maximum romp room. Love it!

My friend and I are rat lovers, and we've been fighting with finding the right cages. We have both males and females and keep them separate. She recently got the Critter Nation 1-level for her girls and I have to say it's the best cage I've ever seen. Bedding doesn't work, so she attached fleece to the bottom and the shelf, so that she can just pull it out, attach new fleece and wash the dirty. It's been a godsend for her, both in convenience and cleanliness. It's making it easier to litter train her rats too, which is going well. She's got me sold, that's for sure. I'm going to be buying the two-story Critter Nation for my fuzzbutts, and will keep the boys and girls separated with one cage instead of having the 'big' cage, the 'quarantine' cage, the 'you're too small to fit in the big cage' cage... and having one of these for each gender? Forget it. Now we'll just have the main cage and the quarantine. Awesome!

I wish I had not waited so long to finally buy this cage!!! Cleaning was my biggest challenge with the last cage I owned. It is a breeze with this cage as the doors open wide and can be removed if needed. The bottom of each level has a pan that is easily removed and I just toss em in the tub for easy scrubbin. The two levels are made so that you can lock the ramp up which is wonderful when you have a sick fuzzy or one fresh out from an operation. Shelf on the bottom to store items and the wheels work well even on carpet.
Be easiest to have two people for assembly which wasn't too hard from what I remember. I've had my cage for a couple years now and it's still like brand new.
BYE THIS CAGE if you have the money it's worth saving for and will make you life and your Fuzzbut's much easier and happier :D

I got this cage to house my rats in. The bar spacing makes it the perfect cage for babies and small females which is what drew me to the cage in the first place. I was tired of waiting until the young ones were large enough to be put in the "big kid" cages. Now I can house all my fur kids together after quarantine. You can block off the levels if intros aren't going well. The cage is easy to clean with a simple wipe down. Both doors open wide to make cleaning easier. You cannot use bedding in these cages however or the bedding will end up all over the floor due to the shallow pans. The only negative remark I have is simply with the arrival condition of this cage which for the most part has been sub-par. Many with this cage say it is hit or miss. Mine was a miss. I did have to order a new wheel and new pans (pans were cracked in shipping) but it's easy to talk to the company to get those shipped free of charge. I love this cage and very much recommend it to any rat owner. I myself have the two story and wouldn't go smaller with my six. They love the space it provides!

This cage is fantastic and worth the money. It is SO much easier to clean and to hang hammocks and stuff. Plus, you can block off the top portion from the bottom fortwo seperate cages if you need to. It also is pretty nice-looking for a cage. I only have 3 ferrets and they have tons of room! One more thing: Midwest cages has great customer service.

I just have to say that I am totally in love w/ this cage. It is just huge and my fuzzies are in heaven. They have enough room to play, sleep and eat when I am gone. They love it. They are still exploring like it is brand new after a week. Thanks Ferret Nation...you're great. This cage is very sturdy and easy to clean as well.

I bought the Super Pet My First Home cage when we first baught our ferrets it was nightmare to clean and within just a few weeks was falling apart the corners would not stay together the platforms would slide away from the sides the Critter Nation Double Unit #142 is a dream to clean it took a few hours to put together (helps to have 2 people) but well worth it. Our 2 girls love the space lots of room for toys pillows and beds!!!

This cage exceeds expectations by far. I got my 2 story in only 3 days and it was in perfect condition. It took two of us to put it together in about half an hour and I have to say I have *never* seen a cage of such great quality nor of this size in petstores. The horizontal bars are fantastic for rats to climb, the amount of space is wonderful! What else can I say? Did I mention the loops on the bottom of the shelves that make it rediculously easy to hang toys and hammocks?
I'm also wondering what other animals this cage would be suitable housing for!
